- Tyler Ulis has to go away from his pass-first mentality with his high school team, Marian Catholic, and this was a role he embraced this past weekend @ the Mac Irvin Fire back to school classic in Chicago, IL. He tallied 4 wins on Sunday alone easily surpassing the 20 point/5 assist marks in each. Breakdown dribble penetration was on full display where local defenses were cooked as Ulis either pulled up in their face or blew by defenders to make plays, getting two feet in the lane at will for easy points. His overall motor impressed me as he worked his opponent end to end, applying serious ball pressure. Crashing the boards and picking the pockets of defenders looked easy for Tyler. When headed towards the offensive end, he put things into another gear showing not just his speed, but quickness with the rock in hand. After committing to Kentucky last week, joining Karl Towns Jr. as the second for the Wildcats in 2014, it’s sake to say big things are to come. Whoever they end up putting around Tyler Ulis it will be his offense. Getting everyone touches at a place like UK hasn’t quite happened in recent memory, so look for more team play in 2014. Flashy finishes will become customary off the beautiful setup by Ulis to Devin Booker or Towns most likely for example.
